What is Your Life?

The post title reflects the words contained in James 4:14b.   What is your life?  For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

There have been a rash of celebrity deaths recently:  Steve Jobs (Founder and CEO of Apple), Joe Frazier (Former heavyweight boxing champ), Heavy D. (Hip Hop Artist), Bil Keane (Creator of Family Circus comic).  I am certain there have been others that I am not aware of at this time.  Whenever someone dies, particularly someone “famous” it really brings home the fact that death does not discriminate.  It claims its victims from the youthful to the aged.  Apart from the 2nd coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ, we will all fall victim to the great statistic:  10 out of every 10 people die.

The question that many people ask is what happens after death?  The book of Hebrews tells us:  “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” Hebrews 9:27.

What exactly are we judged for?  We are judged because of our sins (Romans 3:23–For All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.)  Does that mean that death is a hopeless end?  Not at all!  God chose to intervene on our behalf by sending his son Jesus to die on our behalf and take away the punishment and the penalty of our sins.  Romans 5:8 tells us that God has demonstrated his love for us in that while we are still sinners, Christ died for us.  Thus salvation and reconciliation with God is made available to all who would turn away from their sins and trust in Jesus to be their savior.    Have you trusted in Jesus to be your Savior?
